My personal opinions only :-

“Regular eye tests are crucial in preventing avoidable sight loss. They’re essential for everyone, even if you think your eyesight is fine, as many conditions that can be picked up in a routine eye test begin with no obvious symptoms and often sight conditions can be treated if detected early enough.”

‘In addition to eye health, an eye test can detect other health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, risk of stroke and heart disease.

If you can afford those fees charges, then go for it but if you can’t afford those medical bills, then see those specialists only when you don’t feel right i,e constant headaches, heartaches and all the aches cause by over thinking, blurry visions, pain, giddiness, faint, flashes of light or see stars.

In Malaysia, the fees are not very expensive. It is quite reasonable.Basic eye test, ranges from Rm80.00 to Rm150.00. For a comprehensive eye examinations/packages, a more thorough, complete eye test or screening may cost from Rm150.00 to Rm360.00

The prices will depend on the scope of the eye test, basic or comprehensive and the type of practitioner, optometrist or eye specialist or whether in a specialized eye hospital or a private clinic with an ophthalmologist (Eye surgeon) and finally the location and the facilities.

For glaucoma or Diabetic retinospathy can range from Rm250.00 to Rm350.00

It is never easy to diagnose accurately when the problem is nascent or just beginning. It becomes a probability and uncertainty situation, and you may have to come back for further tests and evaluations later down the road or seek a second opinion.

The doctor cannot say with absolute truth of your conditions until several tests are performed to ascertain the right diagnosis. Today doctors are fearful of being sued for large sums for wrongful diagnosis.

Sometimes the doctor says, there is nothing wrong with the eye, but the patient cannot see 20/20 vision. Some specialist will just scan their eyes with the computerized autorefractor and tell them to go to the optical shop to adjust the power.

These days getting an appointment with a certain eye specialist may require up to 3 months wait. The visual eye acuity test results from the specialist are not always 100% correct. You may need to adjust those powers lower as the patient will find it uncomfortable wearing those prescribed powers.

Sometimes you will have to under correct the eyesight, for over correcting the eyesight or 100% sharpness will not be beneficial to the wearer. For myopia cases, the single power is used for distance and near reading. The eyes have to strain to see near and this may make the power progression faster according to some experts….There is a new lens which has -0.50 lower at the bottom for easier reading. It is like a progressive lens.

If you want a complete eye examination, you will need to visit an eye doctor or the eye specialist or an optometrist.
